Is Indoor Biking the Answer?

For residents of the American Midwest and Mountain West, winter is something of a mixed blessing. On the one hand, a dark snowy winter provides all the moisture folks in that part of the world rely on for agricultural and recreational businesses. But there’s a down side to all that snow and ice. The dark winter months make getting outside for some good old fashioned aerobic activity extremely difficult. Unless you’re really into extreme sports, chances are you won’t get a chance to ride your bicycle between October and April if you live in Wisconsin. That’s why many Midwestern bike enthusiasts have turned to stationary bike trainers like the CycleOps fluid trainer to help provide them with a year round workout. Bike trainers are metal frames that have been fitted with rollers that allow a bike rider to ride any bike indoors for an indefinite amount of time. If you’re interested in purchasing one of the more popular trainers like the Kinetic trainer, there are a few things you should know. For starters, riding on a trainer is not exactly like riding on the street. You’ll really need to pay attention because losing your balance on a trainer can result in serious damage to your house. But if you’re looking for a great winter workout that utilizes the bike you love to ride in the summer, a trainer is the way to go.
